As part of Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) combines the best in academic and community medicine, improving access to advanced medical care for residents of the North Fork and Shelter Island. With 70 beds, SBELIH is Suffolk County’s first hospital, serving the North Fork since 1905. SBELIH provides care to 25,000 year-round residents and expanding to 60,000 summer residents with comprehensive healthcare solutions, including behavioral health, medical-surgical, orthopedics and general surgery, wound care, interventional pain management and GI, advanced ambulatory care, diagnostic, and physical therapy services. The hospital is also a clinical campus and training site for Stony Brook Medicine, with its first SBELIH Psychiatry resident having graduated in 2022.
StaffCo is a Professional Employer Organization, commonly referred to as a PEO, duly organized and registered under the New York Professional Employer Organization law. StaffCo and SUNY have entered into a professional employer agreement under which StaffCo is the employer of Stony Brook Eastern Long Island employees and responsible for all aspects of employment, including hirings, promotions, disciplines, terminations, the day-to-day direction and supervision of work, as well as labor relations and collective bargaining. Job Duties & Essential Functions
- Develop and maintain responsible suppliers for those commodities assigned .
- Purchase requirements of assigned materials at the lowest long-term cost for the quantity, quality, and delivery required .
- Expedite materials when required and handle any rejections or other problems on materials purchased .
- Understand the Materials Management Automated program and its relationship to various interfacing systems.
- Maintain purchasing data bases to ensure prompt, accurate information.
- Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with established purchasing policies and procedures .
- Able to effectively communicate with all levels of customers and staff.
- Able to handle multiple priorities.
- Must have a high level of flexibility and tolerance to adjust to challenges in workload.
- Assist in order follow-ups and order expediting.
- Is service oriented.
- When needed receives all goods delivered by vendor trucks, UPS, Federal Express, etc.
- Unpack items to be received by stores in absence of receiving EVS Tech.
- Counts, weighs, or otherwise measure the quantity of incoming supplies, and notes discrepancies or damaged goods.
- Carry out assigned special projects for the Support Services V.P. or designee, such as annual inventory and redesign of distribution process, daily operations of Material functions and attendance at hospital meetings.
- Maintaining payroll for support services division.
- Completes paperwork and reports as needed .
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Associate’s degree/equivalent credits or, in lieu of a college education, at least 1 year of healthcare environment experience
- Data entry experience
- Inventory control experience
- Accounting, purchasing, and/or procurement experience
- Excellent typing and communication skills; excellent grammar and spelling skills; excellent organizational skills; excellent keyboard skills.
- Associate’s degree with a Business-related focus
