As part of Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) combines the best in academic and community medicine, improving access to advanced medical care for residents of the North Fork and Shelter Island. With 70 beds, SBELIH is Suffolk County’s first hospital, serving the North Fork since 1905. SBELIH provides care to 25,000 year-round residents and expanding to 60,000 summer residents with comprehensive healthcare solutions, including behavioral health, medical-surgical, orthopedics and general surgery, wound care, interventional pain management and GI, advanced ambulatory care, diagnostic, and physical therapy services. The hospital is also a clinical campus and training site for Stony Brook Medicine, with its first SBELIH Psychiatry resident having graduated in 2022.

Job Duties & Essential Functions
- Operates Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment.
- Prepares patents for examination and ensures that the proper information has been obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis.
- Assists in the management of patient flow, data reconstruction and sending images to PACS for physician’s interpretation.
- Performs a variety of technical procedures, which requires independent judgment with ingenuity and not requiring constant supervision.
- Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Maintains and exhibits behavior that promotes patient confidence and trust.
- Demonstrates proficiency in performance of all duties.
- Demonstrates ability to recognize and allay patients’ fears and apprehensions about exams.
- Maintains established department policies, procedures, protocols, programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Assists with other projects as required.
- Attends and works at hospital functions as required.
- Possesses the competency and proficiency to select appropriate scan sequences and protocols to obtain high quality images for diagnosis by the radiologist. This includes but not limited to changing the protocol depending on patient pathology and photography and labeling scan images, processing and displaying final images on viewing machines for interpretation.
- Maintains all necessary records of image slice, injections, stocking supplies, handling of equipment, etc.
- Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area.
- Ability to use the power injector, prepping and loading for use.
- Observes sterile and aseptic techniques when necessary.
- Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department; demonstrates professionalism at all times.
- Maintains ethical relationships.
- Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations.
- Participates in in-service programs.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of accredited program in Radiologic Technology-New York State approved two-year programs.
- New York State Department of Health Diagnostic Radiographic Technologist license.
- ARRT MRI required.
- Up to one (1) Radiologic Technologist experience preferred.

- Heavy lifting and bending of at least 100 lbs.

- Sufficient mobility and dexterity of both arms or mechanical substitutes to operate a stretcher, move patients, transfer a patient and other hospital equipment.
