Cafe Lead (full-time or part-time)

Job Overview: Café Leads are one of a multi-person team responsible for overseeing daily café operations including stationing café team for efficient service, maintaining the prep board, and delegating tasks to the hourly team. As the main liaison between the hourly team and the manager team, they are responsible for ensuring that policies and procedures are being maintained in the café and alerting the manager team when this is not the case. As the person-in-charge on the floor, café leads ensure that all aspects of café operations are functional by proactively assigning prep tasks, unpacking deliveries, and participating in ongoing café maintenance tasks. Café leads are also active participants in training new team members. They are ready to assist the manager team with other tasks as designated, including supply runs, signage updates, menu brainstorming and testing, among others.

Café Leads serve as the Shift Lead during specified times, directing floaters, facilitating the break schedule, and making contact with a manager if/when issues arise with personnel, customers, equipment, etc. Shift Leads are the point of contact for all other hourly team members during shifts as well as the eyes and ears of the managers when they are off floor or out of store.

Salary: Starting at $15/hour, plus tips (tips add a guaranteed $4/hour minimum)

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Direct café staff and float team throughout the day to ensure an excellent customer experience
• Work alongside café team to ensure orders are being completed correctly and in a timely manner
• Maintain a constant awareness of all activity on the café floor; intervene to prevent issues before they arise and resolve issues that can’t be prevented
• Ensure a safe and sanitary work environment through ongoing staff training and support
• Ensure food and supply deliveries are received and put away promptly; maintain hallway, freezer and reach-in organization
• Ensure all food prep is happening through frequent updating of prep board and delegating tasks effectively
• Contribute to routine maintenance procedures, as specified by CM
• Assist with training new café team members as directed by CM; alert CM to any training or personnel issues
• Assist with catering prep for in-store events as directed by CM
• Stay up to date on store goings-on through reading email communications from manager team
• Assist with communicating store updates to floor team verbally on shift
• Communicate all necessary information from shifts in a timely manner to the appropriate manager, including in the moment communication when needed
• As Shift Lead: manage break schedule, ensure staffing stays in line with business, and serve as point of contact for the manager team
