Position Summary:
Responsible for tracking down and procuring data through various methods including bend testing, RFID scanning, visual inspection, and lab testing. This role involves entering, organizing, and validating test data in digital record systems while coordinating with field teams to build Sterling's comprehensive data set.
Essential Functions:
- Travel to yards, jobsites, and labs (up to 70% travel requirement) to build the Sterling data set
- Coordinate with foremen, project managers, operators, and yard management to schedule and execute data collection
- Select and prioritize testing subjects and methods based on project requirements
- Conduct various testing methods on materials and Sterling matting fleet improvements, including:
- Bend testing and structural assessments
- Qualitative and quantitative evaluations
- Cutting, coring, and sampling procedures
- Visual inspection and documentation
- Operate heavy equipment (training provided):
- Skid steers, forklifts, and loaders
- RFID equipment including scanners and readers
- Maintain and operate technical systems:
- PCs and data management software
- Handheld scanners and fixed readers
- Electronic and mechanical hardware
- Hydraulics, generators, and related equipment
- Work flexibly between Sterling Site Access in Phoenix, IL and Sterling's Office at MHub in Chicago, IL as projects require
- Review data for discrepancies and ensure completeness
- Schedule and coordinate jobsite visits, equipment shipments, and maintain project timelines
- Consistently demonstrate commitment and support for the Sterling vision, mission, policies and procedures.
- Performs work in compliance with work instructions and policies as outlined by management.
- Foster a culture of innovation, teamwork, customer-centricity, and compliance.
- Cultivate strong partnerships with cross-functional teams to support departmental needs and overall business goals.
- Cross train within the team, and across other departments, to provide backup support throughout the department.
- All other duties and projects assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical certification or associate degree in related field preferred
- 1-3 years of experience in construction, manufacturing, or technical field preferred
- Experience with data collection or quality control a plus
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Comfort driving long distances, towing trailers, and transporting equipment
- Basic engineering, carpentry, or machining experience with willingness to expand skills
- Ability to troubleshoot machinery in field conditions
- English proficiency required; Spanish language skills a plus
- Safety-minded approach to all work activities
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge in the repair, commissioning and maintenance of equipment
- Strong organizational, documentation, and record-keeping skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong written and oral communication skills for both field and office environments
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a highly productive team environment
- Comfort working in construction environments in various weather and climate conditions

Full-time hourly: $26.00 - $31.00 dependent upon experience, and qualifications.
