Sterling Search Partners is helping a growing client with its search for a Tax Accountant. The Corporate Tax Accountant is responsible for supporting the company’s global tax compliance, tax provision (ASC 740), and reporting processes in a publicly traded environment. This role works closely with finance, legal, and external auditors to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting in accordance with SEC and GAAP requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Provision & Reporting (ASC 740)
- Prepare and support quarterly and annual income tax provisions under ASC 740
- Calculate current and deferred tax provisions, including valuation allowances
- Maintain and roll forward deferred tax assets and liabilities
- Assist with effective tax rate (ETR) analysis and variance explanations
- Support tax-related disclosures in 10-Q and 10-K filings
Compliance
- Prepare and/or review federal, state, and local income tax returns
- Coordinate with external tax advisors on filings and technical matters
- Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) controls over tax processes
- Monitor changes in tax laws and assess impact on the company
Audit & Controls
- Support internal and external audits (Big 4 interaction typical)
- Prepare documentation and respond to auditor requests
- Maintain strong documentation for tax positions and journal entries
- Assist with uncertain tax positions (FIN 48 / ASC 740-10)
Planning & Analysis
- Assist with tax planning initiatives and modeling
- Analyze tax impacts of business transactions (M&A, restructuring, etc.)
- Support cash tax forecasting and payments
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s in Tax preferred)
- CPA strongly preferred
- 2–5 years of experience in: Public accounting (Big 4 or national firm)
