What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Engineer (Process Architect) position at Sterling Engineering?
We’re partnering with a well-established advanced manufacturing organization to hire a Process Engineer / Process Architect who will own the design, optimization, and standardization of manufacturing processes across the operation. This role is deeply rooted in classic process engineering principles—flow, repeatability, risk reduction—while applying modern tools, data, and disciplined problem-solving to support scalable, high-performing operations.
This position sits at the intersection of process engineering, operations, and product development, making it ideal for someone who thrives on structured thinking, detailed process mapping, and turning complexity into clear, executable systems.
What You’ll Do
- Architect and optimize end-to-end manufacturing processes using tools such as 3P, Value Stream Mapping, Process-at-a-Glance, and control documentation
- Perform detailed process mapping, FMEA, DFM, and risk assessments to identify waste, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities
- Design and refine processes to improve flow, throughput, quality, and repeatability
- Lead structured root-cause analysis and corrective actions using disciplined, data-driven methodologies
- Establish and maintain process standards, documentation, and controls across assigned value streams
- Support new product introductions by evaluating manufacturability and defining robust process requirements
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Safety to ensure alignment with design intent and business objectives
- Identify and support implementation of new equipment, tooling, and technologies to enhance process performance
- Lead process validation, capability studies, and measurement system reviews
- Prepare and present technical recommendations and findings to leadership and engineering teams
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline
- 8 years of experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or similar technical roles
- Strong background in process analysis, root cause investigation, and structured engineering tools
- Hands-on experience designing, improving, or scaling manufacturing processes
- Proven success supporting NPI, process redesign, or major continuous improvement initiatives
- Ability to manage projects from concept through execution
- Strong communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally
Nice to Have
- Experience leading projects or initiatives in a manufacturing environment
- Lean, Six Sigma, Red X, or similar certifications
- Track record of leading CI or Lean-based improvement events
