Patient Access Representative - Emergency Department Openings
We have openings for Patient Access Representatives in the Emergency Department. The shifts will be rotating from 7pm to 7am including every other weekend and holidays.
We also have openings for PRN positions.
Job Summary
The Patient Access Representative is responsible for ensuring the delivery of outstanding customer service while greeting patients, registering patients and verifying or obtaining complete and accurate patient demographic information.
This includes identifying patient benefits eligibility, verification of pre-certification obtained from insurance companies and/or physicians offices, identifying insurance and/or patient responsibility, collecting identified co-pay/deductible, co-insurance, and completing the entire registration process accurately.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and register them in a timely manner.
- Verify and scan patients' insurance eligibility and benefits into their account.
- Post payments in the computer system and generate appropriate patient receipts.
- Overview registrations and correct any errors found after the primary registration is done.
- Audit departmental accounts during downtime.
- Maintain and complete Registration department Productivity Sheets daily.
- Maintain productivity sheet of unfinished registration to ensure all is completed the same day if possible, but no later than the following day.
- Interact with various hospital departments and physician's offices to effectively schedule and direct patients through the SCH systems in a patient/customer friendly manner.
- Provide training to new staff and attend educational meetings as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to compile, code and categorize, or verify information/data.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information.
- Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
- Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
- Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Attend regular staff meetings and in-services as needed.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Previous switchboard or registration experience with understanding of medical terminology preferred.
- BASIC knowledge of CRT Operation.
Work Environment
The Patient Access Representative will work in a fast-paced environment and will be required to:
