Surface Preparation Specialist

Location: Onsite | Hillsboro, OR

About the Role

Own the last step before parts ship. You will refine edges and surfaces on precision‑machined metal components to meet exact specifications, quality standards, and production goals.

Core Responsibilities

• Deburr and finish machined parts to meet dimensional and cosmetic requirements.
• Select the right tools (hand tools, sanders, grinders, specialty deburring equipment) for the job.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, process sheets, routings, and travelers.
• Inspect work to confirm finishes and edge conditions meet specification.
• Recognize, communicate, and resolve finishing challenges to protect flow and quality.
• Prepare, wash, and stage parts as defined by the traveler routing.
• Record all required data accurately in production documentation and shop floor data systems.
• Follow QMS procedures, SOPs, and safety protocols at all times.
• Assist in other production areas and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation; perform other duties as assigned.

Tools & Methods You’ll Use

• Hand deburring tools, abrasive pads, files
• Powered sanders and grinders
• Visual and dimensional inspection practices

Qualifications

• High school diploma plus 3–6 months of related experience, or equivalent education/experience.
• Practical experience finishing precision‑machined components.
• Ability to read prints and follow routings/travelers accurately.
• Detail‑driven with strong inspection skills and a quality mindset.
• Problem solver who can identify issues and take corrective action.
• Team‑oriented, reliable, and adaptable; adheres to QMS and safety requirements.
