What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Engineer - Manufacturing position at STEM Search Group?
We’re working with a global manufacturer in the Spartanburg area seeking a Project Engineer focused on driving capital projects, equipment installs, and plant improvements within a high-volume production environment. This role is centered around project execution and coordination, working across the plant to move projects forward, solve problems, and ensure successful implementation from concept through startup.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Drive capital projects from early planning and budgeting support through installation, startup, and final validation
- Coordinate across production, maintenance, quality, and external vendors to keep projects on track and moving forward
- Manage equipment installs, new production lines, and process startup activities
- Lead internal projects such as equipment moves, layout changes, and plant improvements
- Oversee contractors and vendors on-site, including scheduling, safety, and quality of execution
- Track timelines, budgets, and key milestones — proactively communicating updates, risks, and delays
- Support troubleshooting and issue resolution during installation and startup by working with the appropriate technical teams
- Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements, automation, and cost savings over time
What We’re Looking For
- Engineering degree (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or similar)
- 2–5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (co-op or internship experience considered if hands-on)
- Exposure to projects involving equipment installs, process improvements, automation, or plant changes
- Strong communication and coordination skills, able to work across multiple teams, follow up, and keep projects moving
- Ability to manage timelines and communicate project status clearly (experience using project tracking tools or timelines is a plus)
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, plant-floor environment
- Ability to read electrical schematics and work with technical teams to resolve issues
- Familiarity with CAD and general engineering design concepts
- Exposure to PLC systems a plus (Allen Bradley / RSLogix)
