We are seeking a skilled Microbiologist II to join the Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory Network. In this role, you will independently coordinate and perform high-complexity microbiological examinations, molecular assays, and strict quality assurance to track and identify resistant pathogens.
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite
Location: Indianapolis, IN (Marion County)

Shift: Monday Friday, 37.5 hours/week (Day shift, flexible options)
Key Skills & Responsibilities
1. Pathogen Identification & Culture
- Perform culture, isolation, and identification of critical bacteria and yeast specimens.
- Target organisms include: E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Candida auris.
- Maintain flawless aseptic techniques throughout all laboratory workflows.
2. Advanced Molecular Techniques
- Extract nucleic acids using both manual and automated methods.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic platforms: PCR, Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS), and MALDI-TOF.
3. Compliance & Quality Control (CLIA)
- Ensure all testing adheres strictly to CLIA regulations for high-complexity testing.
- Perform, monitor, and document daily quality control (QC) checks, calibrations, and instrument maintenance.
- Participate successfully in proficiency testing programs.
4. Data Analysis & Reporting
- Evaluate, interpret, and validate laboratory results.
- Assist in compiling epidemiological and statistical reports from daily and weekly data.
Requirements
- Education: BA/BS degree in Biological Sciences or a related field.
- Experience: 2 years of high-complexity laboratory experience as testing personnel (including daily testing oversight) is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of microbiology principles, sub-specialties, and public health laboratory safety practices.
- Environment: Ability to maintain focus and accuracy while wearing awkward personal protective equipment (PPE) and working in variable laboratory temperatures.
