Full Job Description
Sassafras Harbor Marina is seeking an experienced and motivated Service Manager to lead its marine service department. This is a hands-on, on-site leadership role responsible for overseeing service operations, parts department, technicians, vendor relationships, and customer experience.
The Service Manager will be accountable for safety, quality of work, departmental profitability, and efficient execution of all service activities, while working closely with marina management and yard staff.
Key Responsibilities
Service Department Leadership
- Manage day-to-day service operations including repairs, maintenance, commissioning, winterization, and emergency service work.
- Lead, schedule, and supervise service technicians and yard personnel.
- Maintain high standards for workmanship, safety, and customer satisfaction.
Financial & Performance Management
- Prepare estimates, manage job costing, and track service department profitability.
- Manage labor utilization, parts ordering, and workflow to improve margins and turnaround times.
- Monitor backlog, capacity planning, and technician productivity.
Customer & Vendor Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for service customers, ensuring clear communication, accurate estimates, and timely delivery.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with parts suppliers, contractors, and specialty vendors.
- Address and resolve service issues or customer concerns promptly and professionally.
Yard & Equipment Coordination
- Coordinate haul-outs, blocking, storage logistics, and service scheduling with yard staff.
- Oversee proper use and maintenance of service equipment (travel lift, forklifts, shop tools).
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, safety, and customer experience within the service department.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in marina service operations, boatyard management, or marine mechanical role.
- Strong working knowledge of marine systems (engines, electrical, fiberglass, propulsion, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience managing technicians, contractors, and vendors.
- Solid financial skills, including estimating, job costing, and budget oversight.
- Self-directed, organized, and comfortable operating in a hands-on environment.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred but not required:
- Experience with travel lift and yard operations
- ABYC, manufacturer, or trade certifications
Compensation
