The Surgical Materials Buyer is responsible for procuring high-quality surgical supplies, equipment, and materials to support the operational needs of the Surgical Services department at Steele Memorial Medical Center (SMMC). This role involved managing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, ensuring cost effective purchasing, and maintaining inventory levels to meet surgical department demands while adhering to regulatory and compliance standards and will work closely with the Materials Management Directory to assist in obtaining supplies.
Duties:
- Source and purchase surgical supplies to include: instruments, disposables, implants, and specialized equipment. Ensure timely delivery and adherence to specifications and procedural schedules and inventory. Builds and maintains relationships with supplies negotiation and monitor pricing, terms, and contracts to secure cost-effective and reliable supply chains. Collaborate with the Director of Materials Management to align purchasing strategies with budgetary goals and GOP contracts.
- Monitors and maintains accurate inventory levels, forecast demand, and coordinates with surgical teams to ensure adequate stock without over-ordering. Work closely with surgeons, nurses, and administrative staff to understand material needs and preferences for surgical procedures.
- Ensure all purchased materials meet regulatory standards (e.g., DNV, CMS) and comply with hospital policies and safety requirements. Evaluates vendor performance and negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and service agreements.
- Analyze market trends, evaluate supplier bids, and implement cost-saving strategies without compromising quality.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and inventory transactions using procurement software or ERP systems.
- Verify the quality and functionality of received materials, addressing any issues with suppliers promptly.
- Participate in audits, physical inventory counts, and process improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred
- Minimum of 2-3 years of purchasing experience or training in a healthcare or surgical environment or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Familiarity with surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and medical terminology required.
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) pr Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) preferred.
