Duties/Responsibilities
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Answer phones and questions presented by callers, Doctors, and Hospital Staff.
- Interprets physician's orders and secures a requisition before performing test.
- Identify patient using two identifiers.
- Collect proper specimen, being aware of patient comfort.
- Time, date, and initial specimens.
- Determine if specimen is of proper quality and quantity.
- Prepare specimens for analysis and deliver to proper work area.
- Draws blood from patient's finger, vein, or artery observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
- Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid.
- Performs blood counts.
- Conducts blood tests for transfusion purposes.
- Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens including blood, stool, sputum, throat cultures.
- Correctly receive, analyze and result water testing.
- Performs tests in an accurate and timely manner.
- Informs Provider of lab results.
- Call appropriate individual with panic values, or values that will gravely affect wellbeing of patient.
- Documents all requests and results of lab work accurately.
- Recognizes abnormalities and notifies provider immediately.
- Performs daily and monthly quality control, maintenance, and cleaning procedures per guidelines.
- Orders and stocks supplies as needed.
- Receive shipment of supplies
- Check contents against shipment invoice.
- Collect drug screens with a chain of custody (DOT and non-DOT).
- Performs Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) and completes associated Chain of Custody
- Collects paternity tests and properly completes associated chain of custody.
- Perform EKGs.
- Performs Therapeutic Phlebotomy when necessary.
