Compliance Specialist

Job Summary:

We?re looking for a detail-driven Customs Compliance Specialist to support our import/export compliance operations. This role will serve a key part in the success of our fast-growing business in the data center cooling, pharmaceutical, food & beverage industries, by ensuring trade and customs compliance and proactive decision making amid changing regulations. The ideal candidate combines relevant trade or customs compliance experience with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Import/Export Compliance
  • Prepare and review import/export documentation for accuracy and regulatory adherence.
  • Classify products using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and assign ECCNs.
  • File Electronic Export Information (EEI) through AESDirect as needed.
  • Monitor shipments to ensure smooth customs clearance.
• Regulatory Management
  • Research and interpret U.S. and international trade regulations (EAR, ITAR, OFAC, Customs regulations).
  • Communicate compliance requirements to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tariffs, free trade agreements, and regulatory changes.
  • Support Compliance Manager in non-trade matters pertaining to product (i.e. RoHS, REACH, USP Class VI, 3-A, PFAS, etc.), and supplier compliance as required.
• Audit & Risk Mitigation
  • Conduct regular audits of trade transactions and records.
  • Identify potential compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Manage responses to customs inquiries.
• Broker & Vendor Management
  • Liaise with customs brokers and government agencies.
  • Maintain oversight of Customs operations within businesses.
• Training & Continuous Improvement
  • Train teams on customs compliance policies and best practices.
  • Develop and improve SOPs and internal controls.
  • Support initiatives to digitize and automate trade compliance processes.
  
  

Primary Competencies:

• Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., Dynamics 365 Business Central) and customs filing tools
• Strong Excel and PowerBI skills; able to analyze and report on trade data.
• Strong project management skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Able to interpret government & technical regulations.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in customs or trade compliance, logistics, or supply chain operations.
• Experience with free trade agreements (USMCA, etc.), Section 232 Steel & Aluminum tariffs, and US Drawback.
• Experience with Incoterms, tariff classification, valuation, and country of origin rules.
• Bachelor?s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Domestic travel may occasionally be required, including overnight, by air, and by car

• Able to perform the physical demands of the job including:
  • Safely navigate a manufacturing environment

  • Extended periods sitting at a desk and using a computer

Base Salary: $70,000-80,000 annually
