What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Engineer (Batteries & Power Systems - Advanced R&D) position at Stealth Startup?
Location: Monmouth Junction, NJ
(Potential for candidates to start in NJ and relocate to Texas or Bay Area in the future if preferred)
Type: Full-Time
About Us
We are a fast-growing startup redefining the future of energy storage and power distribution. We engineer high-efficiency, next-generation power systems from the ground up. Our team moves quickly from concept to prototype to demonstration. If you enjoy building real hardware, solving difficult engineering problems, and seeing your designs become working systems, we want to hear from you.
The Role
As our Electrical Engineer, you will help design, build, and validate the core technologies that power our products. This is a highly hands-on role that spans electrical architecture, prototype fabrication, testing, and system integration. You will work directly on battery systems, power electronics, and energy storage technologies, helping transform ideas into field-ready demonstrations and commercial products.
What You'll Do
Design & Architect
* Develop robust power electronics, battery management systems (BMS), and analog/digital circuits
* Design electrical architectures for energy storage and power distribution systems
* Perform system modeling, simulation, and component selection
Build & Prototype
* Design, fabricate, assemble, and test scaled hardware prototypes
* Develop custom PCBs, wiring harnesses, battery systems, and power distribution assemblies
* Rapidly iterate designs based on testing and field feedback
Test & Validate
* Conduct electrical, thermal, and system-level testing
* Diagnose hardware issues using oscilloscopes, electronic loads, thermal cameras, and other lab equipment
* Analyze performance data and drive continuous design improvements
Collaborate
* Work closely with mechanical engineers, technicians, and leadership to bring products from concept to deployment
* Support customer demonstrations, pilot projects, and early product development efforts
What You Bring
Education & Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
* Advanced degrees (MS, PhD) and/or 2 years of relevant industry experience are a plus
* Strong academic and professional track record
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative startup environment
* Entrepreneurial mindset and self-directed problem solver who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership of projects, and is excited to help shape both products and company direction.
Energy Systems Expertise
* Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS), electric vehicles (EVs), charging infrastructure, power electronics, power conversion, or related technologies
* Proven track record with inverters, power magnetics, battery systems, or BMS design
Hands-On Engineering
* Demonstrated experience designing, fabricating, assembling, and testing physical hardware prototypes
* Comfortable working on both bench-top demonstrations and larger integrated systems
* Experience taking products from concept through validation is highly desirable
Tools & Technical Skills
* High proficiency with Altium Designer, KiCad, or similar PCB design tools
* Experience with LTspice or equivalent simulation software
* Comfortable using oscilloscopes, electronic loads, thermal cameras, and other lab instrumentation
Why Join Us?
* Competitive compensation and comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
* A chance to shape the foundational tech of a high-growth energy startup
