The Division of Adult Institution is recruiting to fill a Financial Specialist Senior position. This position is based out of Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility, Milwaukee, WI.

Position Summary

This position provides fiscal administration and financial oversight of maintenance department expenditures, procurement transactions, and related financial activities for the Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility.

The position reviews and processes financial transactions associated with maintenance operation, assign and verify accounting codes, monitoring encumbrances and expenditures, reconcile financial records, and resolving financial discrepancies.

This position compiles and analyzes financial information related to maintenance expenditures, preparing fiscal reports, monitoring budget activity, and maintaining documentation required for financial accountability and audit purposes. The position also provides consultation to maintenance staff regarding fiscal procedures, procurement documentation requirements, and financial tracking processes.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule/range 02-13 with a starting pay rate of $26.08/hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the Compensations Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

Remote work is not an option for this position.

Shift: Monday-Friday 7:45pm-4:30pm

Qualifications

Applicants will be assessed on relevant experience, including the following:

Modern bookkeeping, purchasing and procurement, policies and procedures, accounting & auditing practices and principles; working knowledge and usage of MS-Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) state accounting systems, and the Internet; ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public; and identify issues and follow through with problem solving techniques.
