The DOJ, Office of Crime Victim Services (OCVS) houses resources and programs for crime victims, family and friends, as well as professionals in the victim services field. OCVS manages a toll-free line that connects victims to these programs, including the Crime Victim Compensation program, the Victim Resource Center, Safe at Home Address Confidentiality Program, and Victim Appellate Notification Services. OCVS also manages and administers the federal grant programs and state funding streams for victim service agencies and county Victim/Witness programs throughout Wisconsin and coordinates technical assistance trainings for a broad range of service providers and stakeholders.
Position Summary
OCVS is recruiting a highly motivated and skilled CVC Claims Specialist (Crime Victim Claims Specialist) to join our Crime Victim Compensation Team.
CVC Claims Specialists are responsible for independently processing and managing claims filed for reimbursement with the Crime Victim Compensation Program. This includes claims review and investigation, eligibility determination, applying statutes and financial procedures, and caseload management. This position requires communicating with crime victims to review and discuss information about expenses incurred as a result of the crime. CVC Claims Specialists are required to manage vicarious trauma that can result due to the ongoing exposure to the details of violent crime. This position is also responsible for ensuring that restitution is ordered to the Crime Victim Compensation Program and developing strategies to implement revenue recovery activities for the Crime Victim Compensation Program.

Salary Information
The Crime Victim Claims Specialist position is in pay schedule 07 and pay range 03. The starting pay for this position will be between $34.00 and $38.00/hour, depending upon experience and qualifications, plus excellent benefits. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan effective at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

This position is headquartered at the Risser Justice Center located at 17 West Main Street in the award-winning city of Madison. This position may be eligible to work remotely 1-4 days per week as part of a hybrid schedule following an initial training period (typically 3 months), including reporting on multiple consecutive workdays to the assigned headquarters as needed. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement. High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work.
The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.
A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.

- Investigating and analyzing applications and claim documentation for program participants.
- Working in a case management system.
