The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Teacher – Food Service Assistant & Bakery position. This position is based out of Jackson Correctional Institution in Black River Falls, WI (Jackson County).
Position Summary
This teacher will develop, implement and conduct professional educational services to persons in our care (residents/students) in order to meet their individual academic and/or vocational needs in Food Service Assistant & Bakery Vocational Programming.
This position will complete required documentation of student assessment/progress, monitor and manage student behavior, attend staffing and meetings, and serve on inter- and intra-disciplinary teams.
This teacher will also provide training to others and engage in specialized instruction and institution committee/projects to financially support and sustain funding for the Training Kitchen upon request.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule and range 13-04 with a starting pay of $31.01/hour - $35.06/hour. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.
This position may receive supplemental (add-on) pay adjustments for additional credits relevant to the position that are over and above the credits needed for certification. This add-on ranges from $0.97/hour to $2.97/hour of additional pay, based on relevant credits and professional development actions, as allowed in Section A (4.12) of the Compensation Plan.

Job Details
This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.
Employees are required to obtain a ServSafe Food Manager Certification (or equivalent) within six months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
This position is FLSA Exempt.
Anticipated schedule will be Monday – Friday 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM.
This position has physical requirements related to performing the job duties that involve being able to stand and move freely. This role will prepare food and inspect sanitation, which involves manipulating fine objects, operating appliances, and lifting freely up to 50 lbs. to perform necessary tasks, and may need to occasionally climb stairs. A full list is included with the position description.
This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.

Qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must possess or be eligible for certification by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) board and WTC in: Vocational Food Service Assistant and Bakery. This requires:
A Bachelor’s Degree (in any area of study) along with two years of occupational experience (4000 hours) in the field of Food Service and/or Bakery.
-or-- An Associate’s Degree (in any area of study) along with seven years of occupational experience (14,000 hours) in the field of Food Service and/or Bakery.
- (Individuals hired without a Bachelor’s Degree must work to obtain one while employed in this role and meet the progress requirements set by the instructor and the Education Director for completion (usually 6 credits per year).)
