The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Buildings & Grounds Superintendent position. This position is based out of Oakhill Correctional Institution in Oregon, WI.

Position Summary


This position plans, implements, directs, and evaluates the preventive and corrective maintenance program for the entire institution physical plant and all vehicles; ensures the water supply system distributes and delivers potable water to all areas; establishes, procures and maintains an inventory of replacement parts and routine day-to-day maintenance supplies; supervises the institution’s central steam supply (Power Plant); supervises the maintenance department and crafts worker staff; develops special repair and maintenance project requests; provides for planning and design of new facility construction; and oversees the institution’s entire annual repair and maintenance allocation.

Salary Information


This position is in pay schedule and range 81-03 with a starting pay of $40.00/hour - $46.59/hour. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details


Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have training and/or experience:

  • Planning and directing buildings and grounds operations
  • Managing preventative maintenance programs
  • Supervision or leadership in managing day-to-day operations, including directing subordinate staff (assigning/reviewing work, conducting performance evaluations, etc.)


In addition to the above, well-qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Developing and managing remodeling and/or repair projects
  • Managing and oversight of heating, cooling and refrigeration systems; electronic, food service, and grounds equipment; institution security systems, and other building structure components
  • Interpreting and applying State and Federal codes and standards
  • Developing and/or monitoring a capital budget
