Overview
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a District Office Supervisor for the Montpelier location. Duties involve the issuance of registrations, handicap placards, issuance of licenses, examination of applications through use of various written, visual and road tests. Additionally, the position will be responsible for cash handling and accountability of all funds within the office.

The District Office Supervisor will:
  • prioritize office activities to meet operating requirements
  • develop and monitor internal controls
  • analyze workflow issues and implement workable solutions
  • develop effective working relationships with staff and customers
  • provide necessary training, guidance and motivation to staff
  • initiate and maintain orderly statics of staffs work
  • supervise the efficient use of office supplies and maintenance of office equipment
  • maintain a pleasant and secure working environment
  • act as liaison with other departments and divisions

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and working experience of supervisory principles and practices, proficient computer skills, and strong written and verbal communication abilities. Flexibility and the ability to pivot priorities at a moment's notice are imperative.

In accordance with Title 23, Section 102(d), an applicant must agree to be finger-printed and pass a background investigation to be eligible for this position. The background investigation may include criminal, financial and traffic records checks. Hiring managers will notify applicants who are in the final stage of the interview process of the finger-printing and background check requirement, to which an applicant must agree to be deemed eligible for this position. Applicants will have the right to withdraw their applications before finger-printing and/or a background investigation is conducted.
Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in the office and the field. Incumbents must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure before the public eye and from telephone inquiries. Due to significant public contact exposure to contagious illnesses is a daily risk. Incumbents must be able to multi-task and prioritize unpredictable workloads. Employees must be able to deal with confused, frustrated, and highly upset customers and handle large sums of money. Within the office setting, normal workplace conditions prevail. Riding in various vehicles in which the incumbent has little control of the operator of the vehicle and/or environmental conditions of the vehicle or roadway. Incumbents must be able to take over operation of a motor vehicle in emergency situations. Occasional trips outdoors when administering road exams and verifying vehicle identification numbers. Incumbents must be able to perform several job duties within several different units possibly in the same day. The incumbent must be able to travel to other offices with minimal notice to assist when staffing shortages occur and various scheduled hours. Private means of transportation may be required. Some overtime work may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent AND six (6) years or more of customer service work experience INCLUDING two (2) years or more in a supervisory role.
OR
Four (4) years as an employee of the Vermont DMV.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with prior motor vehicle department experience.
Special Requirements
An applicant's vision must be correctable to 20/40 (Snellen test) in both eyes, with normal color perception and field of vision.
A valid driver's license is required.

Must possess or acquire, within one year of employment, a Class A CDL license with all endorsements, including motorcycle.
The frequency, recentness, and nature of any court conviction(s) and/or a person's traffic record may cause disqualification.
Must pass the Transportation Security Administrations background checks in order to obtain a Hazmat Endorsement.
