Overview
The Motor Vehicle District Office Assistant Supervisor provides support to the Supervisor of the Montpelier DMV branch office, overseeing a team of Direct Client Service Specialists and Examiners.

The Assistant Supervisor will assist with interviewing, hiring, and training of new staff. The position will also support the Supervisor with assigning tasks to employees, monitoring their progress and assuming completion of tasks. The position will maintain knowledge of, and assures compliance with, agency/department work rules, standards of conduct and VSEA agreements. The Assistant Supervisor will act as supervisor when the direct supervisor is unavailable.

This is a working position in which the Assistant will run a counter and work with the general public processing license, registration, title, and driver improvement transactions. This position is required to conduct written and road exams as needed. This is not a remote position.

In accordance with Title 23, Section 102(d), an applicant must agree to be finger-printed and pass a background investigation to be eligible for this position. The background investigation may include criminal, financial and traffic records checks. Hiring managers will notify applicants who are in the final stage of the interview process of the finger-printing and background check requirement, to which an applicant must agree to be deemed eligible for this position. Applicants will have the right to withdraw their applications before finger-printing and/or a background investigation is conducted.
Environmental Factors
Duties are performed predominately in an office setting; however, exposure to the elements for long periods of time may be required. Private means of travel should be available for occasional travel when appropriate. Incumbents must be adaptable and able to work within tight time limits and under considerable stress. Some evening and weekend duty may be necessary. Incumbents must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure before the public eye and from telephone inquiries. Due to significant public contact exposure to contagious illnesses is a daily risk. Incumbents must be able to deal with confused, frustrated, and highly upset customers and handle large sums of money. Within the office setting, normal workplace conditions prevail.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent AND at least four (4) years or more of customer service work experience INCLUDING two (2) years administrative or clerical work.
OR
Two (2) years as an employee with the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles in licensing or registration.
Preferred Qualifications
One (1) year or more supervisory experience or equivalent training(s).
Prior DMV experience.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required.
An applicant's vision must be correctable to 20/40 (Snellen test) in both eyes, with normal color perception and field of vision.

Must possess or acquire a Commercial Learner’s Permit within one (6) months of employment.
Must possess or acquire a Class A CDL license with all endorsements, including motorcycle, within one (1) year of employment.
The frequency, recentness, and nature of any court conviction(s) and/or a person's traffic record may cause disqualification.
