The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) is seeking a highly dedicated and visionary leader for the role of Superintendent. This position functions as the Superintendent for the USDB, reporting to the Utah State Board of Education. The primary responsibilities include directing all agency functions and implementing the USDB's mission to ensure students achieve progress and success in the Utah Core Standards.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and coordinate agency plans, policies, and resources to align with the USBE’s vision and goals.
  • Program Management: Oversee the implementation and evaluation of all USDB programs, accounting for student success and agency activities.
  • Budget Oversight: Develop and monitor the agency budget, including fund allocation and revenue collection. Personnel Supervision: Provide direction to directors and coordinators, including hiring, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions.
  • Public Advocacy: Represent the agency with legislators, LEAs, community stakeholders, and the media. Statewide Travel: Travel to various USDB and LEA sites as necessary, including some overnight stays.

Qualifications

The Ideal Candidate

  • Educational Background: Holds an MA/MS degree or possesses equivalent professional experience is preferred.
  • Cognitive Abilities: Demonstrates high proficiency in oral expression, written comprehension, and deductive reasoning.
  • Management Expertise: Knowledge of business and management principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques.
  • Communication Skills: Skilled in active listening and conveying complex information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Educational Knowledge: Familiar with curriculum design, instructional methods, and measuring training effects. Prior experience working in public education or a role that regularly engaged the public education system, such as collaborating with parents, educators, or administrators.

About The Role

This is a unique opportunity to lead a vital state agency and exert a direct effect on the populations served by USDB. You will work with a dedicated team to provide essential educational services to students who are deaf, blind, or deaf-blind across the state.

Location –This position may be based out of Ogden or Salt Lake City, however, travel is required to all USDB campuses.

Background Check Required – You must successfully pass a criminal history check.

Drug Test Required – No

Schedule Code – AE - Employees of the State Board of Edu. This is a career service exempt at will position.
