Job Description
The Office of Legislative Services (LSO) is a non-partisan office that provides internal support to the entire legislative branch. LSO provides support in varying ways, such as human resource functions, finance, IT services, printing, and more! As an internal support office, we look for individuals who embody a customer service mindset and demonstrates LSO values.
One of the best parts about working for the Legislative Services IT team is the reach your work will have within state government. We are looking to hire a Software Engineer to expand our team of developers and programmers to help with the many software and web projects happening within the Utah Legislature. The work our development team does is foundational to enabling our legislative work to move forward effectively and successfully.
This is a nonpartisan position that requires flexibility to work extended hours between November and March in preparation for, and during, the annual general legislative session. During the session (January through March), employees are required to work on-site. Outside of the session, employees are primarily office-based, with the option to work remotely on Thursdays and Fridays. Employees must maintain a permanent residence in Utah.
Key Responsibilities
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have solid experience with Java, SQL, JavaScript, HTML, XML, CSS, etc. You will also be familiar with object-oriented design concepts. You will be able and willing to work with a team of developers on existing and new projects ranging from web applications to desktop and legacy software.

- Develop and maintain secure custom web applications
- Design and maintain SQL databases
- Assist with updates to legislative websites
- Formulate innovative solutions for old and new projects
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be non-partisan and have the ability to be professional, courteous, and respectful in all interactions, regardless of partisan affiliation.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience developing Desktop and Web-based solutions.
- Knowledge of the entire web development process for front-end and back-end.
- Strong background in design and development of enterprise systems as part of a complete software product lifecycle.
