We’re looking for a skilled Lead Journey Maintenance/Construction Specialist who will assist in driving operational excellence across state facilities. As a Lead Maintenance/Construction Specialist, you’ll serve as a key technical resource and mentor—utilizing your comprehensive skills in building controls, maintenance and construction, and trade systems to keep our operations safe and seamless.

Key Responsibilities

As a Lead Journey Maintenance/Construction Specialist You Will

Under general supervision, serves as the lead worker for maintenance and construction activities within assigned state facilities. Performs advanced journey-level work in multiple building trades, coordinates maintenance and small construction projects, assigns and monitors daily work activities, mentor and train staff, and ensures facilities are maintained in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. This position serves as a technical resource for facility managers, maintenance staff, contractors, and state agencies while promoting quality workmanship, safety, and excellent customer service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants Must Possess One Of The Following

  • High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in commercial building maintenance, construction, facilities management, or a recognized building trade; or
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in a building trade and four (4) years of journey-level experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Currently have a valid Utah Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to applicants with experience in:

  • Commercial or institutional facility maintenance
  • Government facilities maintenance
  • Healthcare, educational, or correctional facilities maintenance
  • Building automation systems (BAS)
  • Energy management systems
  • Construction project coordination
  • Preventive maintenance planning
  • Supervisory or lead-worker experience
  • Computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Electrical systems
  • Heating and cooling systems
  • Culinary and waste water piping systems experience
  • Experience reading schematic drawings

Preferred Licenses And Certifications

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
  • Forklift and aerial lift certifications
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Building Operator Certification (BOC)
  • Other trade-specific certifications related to facility maintenance and construction

Supplemental Information

The Employee Must Be Able To

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crawl, and reach while performing maintenance duties.
  • Climb ladders, scaffolding, and work from elevated platforms or aerial lifts.
  • Work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, confined spaces, and other challenging environments.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, equipment, and state vehicles safely.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations, including occasional after-hours or on-call assignments, as required.
