This is a journey level job. Incumbents perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance/construction duties requiring independent ability to organize and complete maintenance or construction projects, including technical consultation and limited design work, materials and cost estimates, plus compliance with applicable codes. A Journey Maintenance Specialist may:
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems, makes adjustments, repairs and/or performs preventative maintenance on computers, vehicles, equipment, or machinery, etc.
- Provides technical consultation to originators of project job orders, including development of project plans and related estimates.
- Builds, fabricates, or repairs structures, equipment, and/or miscellaneous articles from verbal instructions, blueprints and/or working drawings.
- Welds, solders, brazes, grinds, and/or fabricates various materials.
- Paints, finishes and refinishes wood, metal and other materials.
- Performs general facility maintenance including painting, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, as well as general cleaning and sanitation.
- Performs related plumbing, mechanical, painting and pipe fitting, etc., duties.
Minimum Qualifications

- Electrical systems.
- Heating and cooling systems.
- Culinary and waste water piping systems.
- Reading schematic drawings.
- Working with computer controls
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined areas, bend and crouch and work with hazardous chemicals.
- Must be able to see and hear.
- Must be available for On Call.
