The Utah Labor Commission Industrial Accidents Division is looking for a hardworking team player able to work in a high-volume environment with great communication skills to fill a Compliance Specialist position.
One opening is in our Claims Compliance Team and will be predominantly assisting injured workers, employers, medical providers, attorneys, and insurance adjusters through the workers’ compensation claims process.
One opening is in our Policy Compliance Team for the workers' compensation coverage waiver (WCCW) program, reviewing WCCW applications, determining eligibility, providing education and enforcement of the code.
This recruitment may also be used to fill vacancies that open within 6 months of the job posting in our Policy Compliance Team primarily focused on the employers’ requirement to provide workers’ compensation insurance for its employees.
This is a fully benefited position that offers medical, dental, and vision insurance (from day one), 12 paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, no nights and weekends, and so much more!
This position requires you to work 8 AM - 5 PM Monday through Friday in our offices located in downtown Salt Lake City.
Following the initial 3 month training period, you will be eligible to apply for a hybrid schedule of no less than 3 days on site per week. Additional days on site will be required as needed for coverage, training and/or meetings.

In this position, as a Compliance Specialist, you will assist the public in complying with the requirements of the Workers’ Compensation Act , rules and administrative guidelines, including the issuance of penalties with a focus in several of the following specialties: an employer’s requirement in providing insurance for employees, assisting parties through the claim process, workers’ compensation coverage waivers, unlawful interference, employee misclassification, claims reporting, extraterritorial coverage and unlawful payment of benefits.

- Receiving, researching and responding to incoming questions or complaints.
- Assisting in resolving workers' compensation claim disputes.
- Ensuring workers' compensation laws are followed throughout the process.
- Providing parties with information concerning rights, options, benefits, services, goals and expectations.
- Interpreting, clarifying, explaining, and applying agency policy and procedures, business practices, federal and state laws, and regulations, etc.
- Gathering documentation to support negotiated resolution of non-compliance issues.
- Recommending penalties and corrective action for non-compliance with regulations.
- Other duties as assigned by the management team.
Minimum or "day-one" qualifications:
- Customer service experience, demonstrating strong verbal communication skills in responding to public inquiries clearly and professionally, via phone, in-person, or virtual platform.
- Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, and professional written documents, including emails and letters, tailored to effectively convey information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish, in addition to English
- Experience in a high-volume fast paced customer service environment.
- Experience learning, retaining, and applying laws, rules, policies, and/or procedures.
- Experience explaining laws, rules, policies, and/or procedures to the public.
- Experience with case management practices, including accurate well-written notes.
- Deescalating individuals that do not agree with a law, policy or process.
- Professional Experience with workers’ compensation insurance.
