Assistant Office Director, DHHS

Do you have a love for media, social media, and graphic design? Keeping Utah Safe is the job of everyone, your responsibility will be to convey that message and the message of overall safety both internally and externally. The public affairs office works directly with our administration and media outlets simultaneously, all while supervising a motivated and talented crew.

The Assistant Office Director, DHHS administers high level programs or special projects within an office. Plans, develops, and coordinates services and programs with other offices, divisions, and external agencies. Provides consultation to internal and external groups in their area of expertise. Develops and maintains communication and relationships with these groups. May draft legislation and rules. Acts as Office Director in absence of the Office Director. Supervises professional level employees.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and coordinates issuance of public statements to the media and the general public;
  • Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials;
  • Draws/creates and/or selects graphic charts, working drawings, illustrations, maps, etc., for publications/displays or similar projects;
  • Implement social media strategies, grow online supporter base and traffic;
  • Supervise and coordinate Public Information Officers to support the overall mission;

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Actively looking for ways to help people.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • The ability to identify and understand the speech of another person.
  • The ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.

  • This position may currently be a hybrid of both in-office and remote work days. Please note, a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion, at any time and for any reason.
  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
