In this role, your primary responsibility is to ensure that publicly funded child care program funds are used properly and in compliance with regulations.

A Typical Week Might Include

  • Reviewing financial records, attendance logs, and program documentation from child care providers
  • Conducting audits either independently or as part of a team
  • Traveling to child care centers or family child care homes to perform on-site reviews
  • Interviewing providers, staff, and sometimes recipients about program operations and fund usage
  • Analyzing internal controls, billing practices, and compliance with state requirements
  • Documenting findings in detailed work papers and audit reports
  • Using spreadsheets and audit tools to organize and evaluate data
  • Communicating with providers, county agencies, and internal leadership

Some days are highly structured (data analysis, report writing), while others involve fieldwork and face-to-face interaction.

Pay Information

Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be step 1 of the salary range associated with this position. New hires advance to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Based on collective bargaining and legislative activity, there may be cost of living increases awarded annually. Additional longevity supplements begin after 5 years. The current wage progression for this position is in the table below.

4 yrs. exp. in auditing or accounting which must have included 2 yrs. auditing exp. in accordance with auditing standards or in accordance with prescribed management policies &/or procedures as specified on agency position description.

  • Or completion of undergraduate core coursework in accounting, business administration, computer science or related field; 24 mos. exp. in auditing or accounting which must have included 12 mos. auditing exp. in accordance with auditing standards or in accordance with prescribed management policies &/or procedures as specified on agency position description.
  • Or 12 mos. exp. as External Auditor 1, 66461.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Field Staff Worker

This position is designated as a field position. As a field worker, an employee spends the majority of his/her time traveling for their position performing duties to include, but not limited to inspections, monitoring, observing, training, technical assistance, site visits, conducting interviews, reviewing records, and data collection in various environments. Field workers are expected to manage their daily itineraries, report progress, and coordinate their travel schedule with their supervisor. This designation is determined and approved only by management. Field workers are also required to report to the DCY Office Space on a quarterly basis and based on operational need.

Salary : $45 - $63,544
