Project Manager 2 (Bureau Chief, Family Support Operations)

State of Ohio
Columbus, OH Full Time
POSTED ON 4/8/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/7/2026
We’re looking for an experienced IT and children services leader to oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing support of critical technology systems that power child welfare programs across the state. In this role, you’ll act as both a technical administrator and a key liaison between program staff, IT teams, leadership, and external partners. You’ll play a central role in ensuring systems effectively support programs like family support services, foster care, adoption, and young adult services.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the day-to-day operations and long-term strategy for major automated systems, including Ohio SACWIS, Comprehensive Child Welfare Information Systems (CCWIS) and related platforms
  • Oversee the full system lifecycle—from planning and development through implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement
  • Translate program needs into technical solutions by working closely with stakeholders across program areas, IT, and leadership
  • Ensure systems comply with state and federal regulations, including Ohio Administrative Code requirements
  • Guide system-related projects, managing scope, timelines, budgets, risks, and vendor relationships
  • Contribute to and help execute the agency’s IT strategic plan to support long-term program goals
  • Represent the agency in statewide and national initiatives (such as CCWIS), workgroups, and public forums
  • Develop budgets, cost justifications, and planning documents (including APDs) to secure and manage funding
  • Support procurement efforts by helping develop RFPs, RFIs, and evaluation criteria for vendors and solutions
  • Monitor system performance and drive improvements to ensure data integrity, usability, and effectiveness
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders in planning, implementation and feedback on systems.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team of staff, including assigning work, setting goals, and providing regular feedback
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and growth-oriented team environment
  • Handle administrative responsibilities such as leave approvals and disciplinary recommendations when needed

What This Role Is Really Like

This is a highly collaborative and strategic role that sits at the intersection of technology and public service. You’ll spend a lot of time coordinating across teams, solving complex system and process challenges, and balancing competing priorities. Success in this position requires strong leadership, clear communication, and the ability to navigate both technical and programmatic needs in a highly regulated environment.
