Description of Work
This position provides administrative assistance and office/procedural support for employees in the County Maintenance Office. This position also provides technical support pertaining to personnel policies and procedures.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC02 / $31,200 - $51,249
This position is located in the Pender County Maintenance Unit. The employee in this position will provide office support assistance to multiple maintenance staff. Duties will include typing forms, preparing correspondence, computer data entry, filing, creation and maintenance of miscellaneous reports in Excel, and assisting the public with inquiries and problems by telephone and personal office contact. Data entry and transfer of weekly payroll utilizing SAP/BEACON operating systems are responsibilities of this position. Additional responsibilities will include the processing of monthly reports in SAP/Excel, and other general office duties as required.
Management prefers applicants with the following:
• Customer service experience, including resolving customer issues
• Experience with Microsoft Office using programs such as Access, Word, and Excel
• Experience completing and/or maintaining records and reports
• Working knowledge of the Department of Transportation and its' policies and procedures
• Experience with letter writing, using correct spelling, punctuation and proofreading
Additional Expectations :
Must possess a general knowledge of office procedures and record keeping. Must be able to use a Windows-based computer with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. A basic understanding of accounting principles and procedures is helpful. Candidate should communicate with proper grammar, punctuation, and correct spelling. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, government officials and contractors/vendors. Candidate should possess the skills to maintain and manage multiple projects. Must be available to work after hours during emergency situations such as hurricanes, tropical storms, snow & ice events, tornadoes, etc. Operate State vehicle. A valid NC Driver’s License is preferred. ***Applicants with SAP R/3, CARS, and TIMS experience will be given preference.***
Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
