Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time position will be to provide mental health treatment in the school setting to students enrolled in the School-Based Wellness Center program. This involves consultation with other Wellness Center providers, school personnel, and professionals in the community. The mental health counselor will also conduct mental health assessments with student clients and their families to evaluate the nature and degree of needs, develop a treatment plan, and provide ongoing therapy and/or referrals as indicated by the assessment. Therapy may be individual, family, or group and include case management. The mental health counselor may occasionally conduct therapy sessions via telehealth and/or home visits when schools are closed or if a student cannot attend school for any reason. Additionally, the mental health counselor will maintain accurate and timely documentation according to COMAR and provide necessary data for reports to funding sources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:� �Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). Note: These requirements are established by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. The Department of Budget and Management, Office of Personnel Services and Benefits does not have the authority to accept substitutions or equivalents.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.01.05, candidates placed in this classification must be licensed by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). 2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
