District Recruitment For Rapides Parish:
The overall function of this position is to utilize all equipment necessary to maintain roadway pavement markings within the 7 parishes of District 08. This position is located in District 08/Unit 771/District Traffic Operations Striping Crew. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision. The incumbent must be able to interpret and adjust to changing and unforeseen conditions as they arise. Work is generally performed outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions, depending upon the nature of each assignment. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

- Operate heavy equipment, as needed. (Equipment usage is determined both by seasonal conditions and by the nature of the project.)
- Must be capable of interpreting data contained in various operator's manuals to ensure the limits and capabilities of the equipment operated are not exceeded. Performs minor repairs, services, and cleans equipment in accordance with the operator manual and manufacturer's recommendations to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
- Prior to equipment operation, conduct routine visual/physical safety inspection of equipment, report problems to supervisor/appropriate personnel and/or take necessary corrective action whenever possible.
- Required to work in all types of inclement weather and conditions.
- Light computer work
- Must be capable of sitting, squatting, walking, bending, and climbing to access equipment and various structures.
- Perform duties as directed, such as operating striping vehicle, preparing roadway surface for application of hot tape pavement markings, installing raised pavement markers, placing traffic control devices, delivering, loading and unloading materials and/or equipment, flagging traffic, operating power and/or hand tools, etc.
