District Recruitment for Rapides Parish:
The overall function of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment and various hand tools for the purposes of bridge repair and maintenance in a District-Wide Bridge Maintenance Unit involved in the maintenance and repair of bridges in a seven-parish area (Avoyelles, Rapides, Vernon, Grant, Natchitoches, Winn and Sabine Parishes). This position is located in the District 08/0perations/Unit720/Rapides.
The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to able to perform duties many times without supervision or with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structure training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required task.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Job Duties:
Responsible for the safe/productive operation and proper maintenance of various types of equipment used in the maintenance, repair, and construction of highways and bridges.
Must be able to respond to after-hours, weekend, and emergency callouts when contacted.
Willing to participate in DOTD structured training programs.
Able to work in extreme weather conditions and harsh environments.
Light computer work.
Must be capable of sitting, squatting, walking, bending, and climbing to access equipment and various structures.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational/Promotional
Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday/6:00AM-4:30PM
*Random drug testing required.
