About this Position
The Port of Lake Charles is seeking applicants for the position of Information Technology Technical Support Specialist 1-2-3. This is a full-time Civil Service position. Duties include, but are not limited to, administering and maintaining the information technology/computer network systems for the Port; installing computer networks; monitoring exchange servers; and providing technical support to over 100 employee users.
Strong skills in Internet Technology troubleshooting are preferred.
Three years of experience in information technology; OR
Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in information technology; OR
An associate's degree in information technology plus one year of experience in information technology; OR
A bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience in information technology.
A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
NOTE:
A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.

Job DutiesAs an IT Specialist, this position supports and maintains enterprise technology systems, networks, and infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure operations across the organization.
This position will:
- Installs computer networks and provides day-to-day end user support by identifying, analyzing, testing, and correcting program, machinery, data or procedural problems;
- Performs hardware upgrades on servers, computers, and devices, including printers, hubs, and print servers.
- Troubleshoots network performance and problem connections.
- Updates emergency recovery disks on servers.
- Implements and maintains database security, maintenance utilities and documentation; Maintains and monitors remote access of computer system.
- Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures
- Attends conferences and seminars regarding industry trends and new technologies to stay current.
- Maintains current anti-virus and anti-spyware software and updates on all servers and computers of the district.
- Monitors daily backups, database verifications, statistics and reports; Makes additions, changes and corrections to the district’s website and FTP site 10% Serves as a secondary contact for software and hardware vendors and assists management in determining the need for new system requirements or needs
