The Dean of Students reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and coordinates with the Executive Cabinet and Academic Deans


GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

The Dean of Students is responsible for collaborating with multiple departments to coordinate and lead activities across key student services areas, ensuring effective delivery of programs, services, and support for students. This position provides oversight for TRiO programs, Title IX processes, and ADA compliance, while ensuring adherence to institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.


The Dean of Students manages student conduct, including disciplinary proceedings, grievances, and appeals, and promotes a fair and consistent process aligned with college standards. The position also oversees the Student Government Association and student engagement efforts, including campus events and activities that enhance the student experience.


The Dean of Students serves on institutional committees and may chair select committees as assigned, contributing to college-wide initiatives and decision-making. This role requires an active presence across all campuses to support students, faculty, and staff, address concerns, and ensure consistent service delivery.


The Dean of Students serves as a primary point of contact for student-related matters and works to foster a supportive, professional, and student-centered environment that promotes accountability, engagement, and student success.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, public administration, or a related field; relevant professional experience may be substituted for the required degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, student services, or a closely related area within higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience managing student conduct processes, including investigations, hearings, and appeals.
  • Working knowledge of federal laws and regulations related to Title IX and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), including compliance requirements and institutional responsibilities.
  • Experience supervising professional staff and overseeing multiple functional areas or programs.
  • Experience planning and coordinating student activities, programs, or events.
  • Knowledge of student development principles and best practices in supporting student success and engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and regulations in a consistent and equitable manner.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations.
  • Proficiency in standard office software and student information systems.
  • Ability to travel between campuses and maintain an active presence at all college locations.


Preferred:  

  • Doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, leadership, or a related field.
  • Seven (7) or more years of progressive leadership experience in student affairs, including supervision of multiple functional areas.
  • Direct experience serving as a Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Coordinator, including managing investigations and institutional compliance.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and experience overseeing accessibility services and accommodations in a higher education setting.
  • Experience administering or overseeing federally funded programs, such as TRiO, including grant compliance, reporting, and program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and expanding student engagement initiatives, including oversight of Student Government Association (SGA) and campus programming.
  • Experience managing student conduct systems, including complex cases, appeals, and policy development.
  • Experience developing, revising, and implementing institutional policies and procedures related to student services and compliance areas.
  • Strong understanding of community college student populations and the unique needs of diverse, non-traditional, and first-generation students.
  • Experience using student information systems (e.g., Banner) and student success platforms (e.g., EAB Navigate) to support decision-making and service delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead training initiatives for faculty and staff related to Title IX, ADA, student conduct, and student support services.
  • Experience working across multiple campuses or sites, ensuring consistency in service delivery and operations.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative partnerships with internal departments and external agencies.
  • Record of data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement in student services operations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND AUTHORITY 

Student Engagement, Conduct, and Campus Life (50%)

  • Provide leadership and oversight for student organizations, including the Student Government Association (SGA); may serve as chair of specific student groups as assigned, namely), Phi Theta Kappa, and SkillsUSA.
  • Manage planning, coordination, and execution of student events and campus activities across all locations.
  • Oversee allocation, management, and stewardship of SGA funds in accordance with institutional and system guidelines.
  • Administer the student conduct process, including investigations, hearings, sanctions, and follow-up actions.
  • Review and adjudicate student grievances and appeals, ensuring fair, timely, and consistent outcomes.
  • Develop and implement programs that promote student involvement, leadership development, and campus engagement.
  • Ensure student support services are adequate and accessible for students at all campus locations.
  • Maintain an active presence on all campuses to support student needs and address behavioral or community concerns.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure a safe, respectful, and well-managed student environment.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings or committees as needed.

Title IX and ADA Compliance (30%)

  • Provide oversight of Title IX processes, including intake, coordination, and resolution of reports in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Ensure institutional compliance with ADA requirements, including appropriate accommodations and accessibility practices.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies related to Title IX and ADA.
  • Supervise staff responsible for Title IX and ADA functions, ensuring proper training, case management, and documentation.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate training is provided to faculty, staff, and students regarding Title IX and ADA responsibilities.
  • Monitor processes and outcomes to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance across all campuses.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings or committees as needed.


TRiO Programs Oversight (20%)

  • Provide leadership and administrative oversight for TRiO programs, ensuring alignment with federal guidelines and grant requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all reporting, documentation, and performance measures required by TRiO grants.
  • Supervise TRiO staff and ensure effective delivery of services that support student persistence and completion.
  • Monitor program outcomes and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure appropriate training, program integrity, and adherence to all applicable policies and regulations.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings or committees as needed.

Salary : $70,000 - $80,000
