Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting with planning, organizing, and directing the risk management functions at LSH. Assists in
coordination of investigations of patient incidents with assigned staff, Peer Review Committees, and Administration, as necessary. Assists in development and establishment of a system for analyzing the frequency and causes of Reportable Incidents within the hospital. Assists in taking measures to minimize the occurrence of Reportable Incidents and resulting injuries. Assists in interpreting guidelines set by state agencies and LSH policies and procedures. Assists in developing a system to monitor follow up of Risk Management determinations.
The Assistant Risk Manager is allowed considerable latitude to perform Risk Management activities throughout the hospital. Work direction and expectations are provided through the Risk Manager. The hospital's Risk Management Plan serves as a basis for the work and specific time frames, with specific input from the supervisor or other administrators as needed. Assignments will arise as incidents are reported, and require evaluation at the time received. The Assistant Risk Manager has the authority to request work from, and to work with, various disciplines/departments within the hospital for evaluation of situations, including engagement of peer review processes. Supervisor may review work, as necessary, for thoroughness, accuracy, and timeliness.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
INVESTIGATION and REVIEW RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review incident reports received into the department to assist in determining appropriate follow up.
- Interprets statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to risk management functions.
- Proposes methods and recommendations for how to reduce risks, when indicated.
- Oversees the risk management activities in the absence of the Risk Manager, to ensure the risk management process is maintained.
- Assists in maintaining log (through Plexus) of all incident's reports.
- Assist in investigating or coordinating an investigation of reported incidents suspected to be below the acceptable Standard of Care to help ensure quality care and safety of patients, staff and the community.
REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reports, as required by law, all SOC 3's and 4's to the appropriate regulatory and licensing agencies, as indicated.
- Reports, as required by law, suspected child abuse and confirmed cases of adult abuse to the Attorney General.
- Compiles and submits quarterly reports to the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE), as required.
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gathers and assembles statistical data as assigned in an effort to provide information regarding trends/patterns to the appropriate departments and relevant staff, so they may initiate corrective action.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have valid KS License
- Must have HS diploma
- Proven confidentially for critical reporting
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background of data collection from confidential sources
- Some investigative skills
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
- Ability to pass a KBI background and pre-employment drug test.
