What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUPERVISOR II position at State Controller's Office?
- Print and Mail Operations Oversight and Planning - Responsible for directing and assigning tasks to subordinate supervisors who direct the activities of Print and Mail Operations, and the warehouse. Establish, revise, and maintain reliable workload metrics and service level agreements for all units various production workloads to inform data-driven decisions. Personally handle the more complex and sensitive problems that arise in the Print and Mail Operations, and Reprographics. Coordinate with other SCO divisions and other state agencies for scheduling, problem resolution, and development of processes necessary to ensure all customer needs are met.
- Print and Mail Operations Analyst and Warehouse Worker - Directly supervise the Analyst responsible for providing technical expertise related to all Print and Mail administrative functions, such as contracting and procurement, and various analytical assignments in support of the units goals and objectives, such as monthly postage reports, postage funds requests, annual reports, and other special projects. Directly supervise the Warehouse Worker responsible for receiving, tracking, storing inventory, assisting with ordering production inventory and supplies and ensuring the materials stored in the warehouse are readily available to those who need it.
- Project and Strategic Planning/Implementation - Identify appropriate long-range plans for areas of oversight, collaborate with existing workforce and succession planning team to develop and implement goals to address succession planning, and ensure ongoing process documentation and knowledge transfer are occurring. Serve as Disbursements project lead and/or representative on projects as appropriate.
- Resolve Complex Managerial Issues - Personally deal with high profile matters, both orally and in writing, related to Print and Mail issues and/or items having statewide impact and prepare recommendations for the Assistant Division Chief and Division Chief while modeling Disbursements core values of Teamwork, Respect, Accountability, Communication, and Quality in all interactions, verbally and in writing.

The first half of the probationary period will be served entirely in-office to facilitate training and integration, with the potential for partial telework during the second half. Upon successful completion of the full probationary period, a 2-day weekly telework arrangement will be considered. Telework is at the discretion of the hiring manager or Assistant Divsion Chief, and they can remove or amend a telework agreement if performance is not met or operational needs change.

This position is eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027.
