About the Role
Starter Bakery is growing, and we are looking for a hands-on, strategic Maintenance Manager to lead our maintenance function and ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of our facilities and equipment.
This role is critical to keeping our operations running smoothly, minimizing downtime, improving equipment performance, and building a strong, proactive maintenance culture.
You will lead the maintenance team, oversee preventive maintenance programs, and partner cross-functionally with Production, QA, and Operations to support our fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
What You will DoLeadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop the maintenance team, including the Maintenance Supervisor and technicians
- Set clear priorities, expectations, and performance goals
- Build a proactive, responsive, and safety-first maintenance culture
- Support hiring, training, and ongoing development of team members
Preventive Maintenance & Reliability
- Own and continuously improve the preventive maintenance (PM) program
- Drive equipment reliability and reduce downtime through root-cause analysis
- Ensure timely response to breakdowns and effective repair planning
- Align maintenance practices with manufacturer recommendations and best practices
Planning & Work Management
- Develop and manage weekly/monthly maintenance plans aligned with production needs
- Oversee work order systems to track repairs, parts, and downtime
- Prioritize work based on safety, food safety, and operational impact
- Maintain organized maintenance areas and parts inventory (5S mindset)
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental standards
- Partner on and support the Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) program
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and maintenance standards
- Ensure safe work practices and proper training across the team
Budgeting & Vendor Management
- Manage maintenance budget, repairs, and service contracts
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships
- Oversee parts inventory to balance availability and cost
- Review vendor work quality and approve invoices
Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Lead maintenance involvement in equipment installations and facility upgrades
- Coordinate contractors, timelines, and commissioning
- Ensure new equipment is properly integrated into maintenance systems
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Production, QA/Food Safety, and Operations teams
- Communicate clearly on downtime, risks, and maintenance plans
- Support smooth daily operations and long-term improvements
What We are Looking For
- 5 years of maintenance experience in industrial or food manufacturing (bakery experience a plus)
- 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Experience with preventive maintenance systems and reliability improvement
- Knowledge of safety standards (OSHA); LOTO experience preferred
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to support off-hours work as needed for emergencies or projects
- Must be able to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish (verbal and written).
