Head of Operations | Medical Technology Scale-Up | UK Remote (with Occasional Travel)

Salary: circa £70,000 Benefits

The Role in 20 Seconds

You've spent the better part of your career running operations in a healthcare technology or med tech environment. You've probably held titles like Operations Manager, Delivery Manager, or Project Lead — in a scale-up, a device company, or somewhere that installs physical hardware into healthcare settings. You know how to walk into a fast-moving business, read the room, and get on with it. You don't need hand-holding. You probably find chaos mildly energising rather than paralysing.

The company sells medical care, tracking and monitoring technology — into the UK private health market. They're growing fast. They've built the foundations. Now they need someone to own operations properly.

If that sounds like your kind of environment, keep reading.

The Company

A UK subsidiary of a well-established European care technology business with genuine global ambitions. They've grown the UK business rapidly in the past few years, and they are not slowing down. The UK is one of their most strategically important markets — the density of their target population here makes it a priority globally, so this is a prime market for them.

Until recently, the business ran the way most startups do. That's now changed. A proper project management process has been embedded, a PM team has been recruited, and the operations function has been structured for the first time. The person who did that was interim the current Interim Head of Operations, who is staying on until the end of the year to hand things over properly to whoever takes this role. This is a very rare scenario, and proves the amazing culture that they have created is real!

The atmosphere here is one of the best we've encountered in twenty-five years in healthcare. Supportive leadership, no pressure to work excessive hours, and a management team that celebrates success properly — think team dinners and fun days our when they hit targets, not a round-robin email from the CEO.

The parent company is accessible, responsive, and genuinely interested in the UK team. It's an amazing place to work, not just a good place, and the growth potential is huge - so you'll be busy!

What You'll Actually Do

The bread and butter:

  • Oversee all project delivery across the UK — from contract signed through to successful rollout of technology across multiple client sites
  • Lead a team of three Project Managers and a Head of Installation (who in turn manages four installers and a growing subcontractor network)
  • Manage supply chain from HQ — equipment ordering, timing, cross-charges, and logistics coordination
  • Build and manage formal subcontractor agreements and work orders
  • Ensure the tight pipeline between contract signature and installation is planned, sequenced, and executed properly every time
  • Track delivery performance, report upward, and continuously improve the process

The less obvious bits that matter just as much:

  • Smoothing out a lumpy installation calendar by proactively managing customer expectations around timing — capturing revenue earlier and reducing end-of-month scrambles
  • Being a calm, low-frequency presence as a senior leader who is full of enthusiasm, energy and support. If you're someone who steadies the room rather than adds to the noise, you're already ahead
  • Working closely with Sales, Customer Success, Tech Support, and the HQ logistics team — all of whom have their own priorities and will occasionally need diplomatic management

Who We're Looking For

You'll be a natural fit if:

  • You've worked in healthcare technology, med tech, or a sector involving physical hardware being installed at clinical / care sites — think dentistry, diagnostics, clinical equipment, assisted living tech — and you've owned the delivery process, not just contributed to it
  • You've worked in a scale-up or a growing SME and you understand what that actually means — ambiguity, changing priorities, and the occasional Friday afternoon crisis
  • You're PRINCE2 qualified, or you've run structured project management in practice even if you don't have the badge
  • You understand the commercial mechanics of a hardware plus subscription model — capital purchase, NRI, ARR — and you know why the timing of equipment hitting site matters to the P&L
  • You're the person who brings order without bureaucracy. You build systems that actually get used

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience in an operations or delivery management role involving physical hardware or installations
  • Experience managing project managers and/or installation teams
  • Background in healthcare, med tech, or care technology — or strong transferable experience from an adjacent sector with a hardware delivery component
  • Proven ability to manage subcontractors and third-party suppliers, including formal agreements and work orders
  • Comfortable working remotely and independently — this is a home-based role with site visits and occasional London office days

Nice to have:

  • PRINCE2 or equivalent PM qualification
  • Supply chain management experience, particularly in an import/cross-charge model
  • Experience of the care home or elderly care sector
  • Familiarity with sensory or assistive technology

What's Actually In It For You

The practical stuff:

  • Competitive salary, genuinely based on experience
  • Mostly remote — some UK site visits, occasional London (King's Cross office), possible trips to HQ in Europe in the first few months
  • Joining a business with a proper handover from the interim who built the function — you won't be starting from scratch in the dark
  • A team structure that's already in place and working — your job is to lead it, not build it from nothing

The things that don't show up in a salary figure:

  • A mission that's actually meaningful — helping people live more safely and independently through technology
  • Direct access to C-suite — this is a high-profile role for a global business, and it's treated as one
  • The chance to own a function that's genuinely new — it's only existed since Q4 2025. You can shape it
  • A culture that celebrates when things go well, and supports you when they don't

The Honest Bit

This is a scale-up in transition, and that means some level of organised chaos is still present. Structures are still evolving. Priorities shift. Not everything has a documented process yet, but most of it has been done. If you've spent your career in a large organisation where everything is defined and resourced before it lands on your desk, this will feel like a bigger step than it looks on paper.

If, on the other hand, you've thrived in environments where you had to make judgment calls, build things on the fly, and roll your sleeves up without being asked — you'll probably love it here.

This role also involves genuine travel. Site visits across the UK, monthly presence in London, and the expectation that you'll get out and see how the product actually gets installed — especially early on. If remote means "never leaving the house," this probably isn't right for you.

📧 Apply via the link, or message Andy Clarke directly if you'd rather have a conversation first — especially if you're unsure whether your specific background is close enough, or you want the full picture before committing to a formal application.

💼 Andy has been in and around healthcare and med tech for over twenty-five years, including building and selling medtech companies. You'll get a straight answer to a straight question.

All applications are treated in the strictest confidence. The company will not be named at this stage.

Worth a look even if you're not a perfect fit on paper?

Spent years in operations in a MedTech / healthcare sector and think you could transfer? Been a strong number two who's ready to lead a function for the first time? Come from a project management background and grown into ops? Get in touch.

If the mindset is right and the delivery experience is real, the exact sector background matters less than you might think.
