Human Resources Generalist

Location: East Tennessee
Reports To: Human Resources Manager

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Position Summary
This role will train on 1st shift and then move to an off shift schedule.

The Human Resources Generalist works under the direction of the HR Manager to carry out HR initiatives, processes, and programs that support the goals of the organization. This person runs the daily functions of the HR department, including administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Workforce Planning
Assists in identifying and analyzing staffing needs, including budgeted headcount and variance justification.
Serves as the go to contact for HR questions from managers and employees.
Assists in developing recruiting strategies, sourcing methods, and interviewing and selection procedures.

Employee Relations
Builds strong working relationships with all levels of management and site personnel, sharing best practices and resolving workforce issues.
Supports site leadership in building a culture where employees can perform well and meet organizational goals.
Helps develop and lead employee engagement, awareness, and appreciation programs.

Training and Development
Assists with employee development strategies, including training, performance and talent management, and workforce development.
Ensures legal and ethical hiring practices are followed by everyone involved in the hiring process.
Processes HR transactions and paperwork for transfers, compensation changes, evaluations, hires, and terminations.
Supports the KPI (metrics) program and provides reports to departments.
Helps evaluate and recommend strategies for retention, absenteeism, turnover reduction, and succession planning.

Policies and Procedures
Recommends and supports effective workplace communication policies and procedures.
Confirms that company policies remain legally compliant and are applied consistently.
Ensures benefits programs are clearly communicated and administered and that employees are enrolled as appropriate.

Compliance
Ensures assigned HR responsibilities comply with applicable local, state, and federal laws, including but not limited to Title VII, ADA/ADAAA, EEOC, IRCA, FMLA, USERRA, NLRA, WARN Act, HIPAA, OSHA, the Drug Free Workplace Act, ACA, and Section 125.
Stays current on legislative and regulatory changes and understands their impact on the organization.
Maintains regular, reliable attendance and punctuality.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in business or human resources preferred, but not required.

Experience
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience as an HR Generalist in a manufacturing environment.

Certification
SHRM-CP or PHR preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Works independently with minimal supervision.
Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal HR regulations.
High integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS and timekeeping systems (ADP experience a plus).
Deals effectively with employees at all levels.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Frequent sitting (up to five hours per day) and moving around both an office and a manufacturing floor. The office is climate controlled with low noise levels. Regular use of standard office equipment and a computer, including repetitive typing and viewing a monitor.
