The Extrusion Machine Operator is responsible for safely operating, setting up, monitoring, and adjusting extrusion equipment to produce high-quality finished products according to production specifications.
Job Duties
- Safely operate extrusion equipment to produce finished goods according to production specifications.
- Set up and prepare extrusion machinery for production.
- Perform winder functions and make tension adjustments as needed to maintain proper roll profile and product quality.
- Make rate adjustments to maintain production specifications.
- Operate the blender system, including cleaning, adjustments, and material changeovers.
- Operate the treater system, including cleaning, adjustments, and changeovers.
- Perform extrusion line start-ups and shutdowns.
- Thread the winder and extrusion line using rope or film.
- Safely purge extruders and change screen packs using the specified screens.
- Perform a bubble pull to bring the extrusion line into production.
- Operate and monitor the deflate system, winder, and secondary nips.
- Monitor equipment and product quality throughout the production process.
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Technical training or manufacturing education is beneficial.
Experience Requirements
- Experience operating manufacturing or production equipment.
- Ability to read work instructions, production schedules, and basic technical documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to monitor equipment for proper operation.
- Ability to perform quality inspections and maintain production standards.
- Commitment to workplace safety, attention to detail, and dependable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous machine operation, manufacturing, production, or industrial experience is preferred.
- Experience performing machine setup, tooling changes, troubleshooting, or preventative maintenance is beneficial.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, quality systems, or continuous improvement practices is considered an asset.
- Individuals who demonstrate mechanical ability, reliability, teamwork, and a commitment to quality are well positioned for success as an Extrusion Operator.
Physical Capabilities
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive production tasks throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift materials, components, or finished products weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate manufacturing equipment while maintaining awareness of moving machinery.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and work safely in a manufacturing environment.
