CNC Machine Operator Skills & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 5 years of experience in CNC metal machining
- 3 years of machine setup experience
- Strong knowledge of G & M codes and CNC programming
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Experience machining steel or other metals
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills
- Basic math skills and ability to follow written procedures
How You'll Spend Your Day
- Set up and operate CNC machines using blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications
- Configure machines by entering programs, setting tool offsets, zero points, and registers
- Perform tool changes and monitor tool wear to maintain part quality
- Inspect first-article and in-process parts to ensure dimensional accuracy
- Troubleshoot machining issues and edit CNC programs (G & M codes) as needed
- Maintain product quality through measurements and quality control procedures
- Meet production goals for cycle time, output, and quality
- Perform basic machine maintenance, including coolant and oil checks
- Collaborate with team members to improve process efficiency and machining performance
- Mentor junior machinists and support team development
