Position Summary
St. Thomas the Apostle School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Middle School Social Studies Teacher for grades 6–8. The successful candidate will create engaging lessons that encourage critical thinking, historical inquiry, and civic responsibility while fostering a classroom environment built on respect, collaboration, and Catholic values.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Social Studies instruction aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
- Teach topics including United States History, World History, Geography, Civics, Government, and Economics.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of all learners.
- Utilize assessment data to guide instruction and monitor student progress.
- Create and maintain a positive, organized, and respectful classroom environment.
- Integrate technology into daily instruction to enhance student learning.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
- Collaborate with faculty, administration, and staff to support school initiatives and student success.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school liturgies, and school events.
- Support and uphold the mission and Catholic identity of St. Thomas the Apostle School.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, History, Social Studies, or a related field is required.
- Previous teaching experience is preferred; candidates with relevant educational experience are encouraged to apply.
- New Jersey teaching certification is preferred but not required.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families.
Preferred Skills
- Experience using Promethean Board interactive technology.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace for Education (Google Classroom, Docs, Slides, Forms, Sheets, and Drive).
- Experience integrating educational technology into classroom instruction.
- Familiarity with differentiated instruction and data-informed teaching practices.
