Position Summary:
This position provides specialized nursing care and treatments for medically fragile adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities residing at The Beach House by St. Mary’s. The nurse plays a vital role in ensuring each individual’s health, safety, and well-being under a person-centered model of care. Incumbents may be required to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays, to meet the needs of residents.
Responsibilities Include:

Conducting daily physical assessments of assigned individuals

Administering medications, treatments, and tube feedings as prescribed by the physician

Receiving, transcribing, and implementing physician’s orders using the electronic health record

Managing and providing care to tracheostomy-dependent individuals

Responding appropriately to medical or behavioral emergencies involving residents or staff

Documenting all nursing and medical care activities accurately and promptly

Safeguarding individual rights and ensuring dignity in all interactions

Assisting in developing and updating individualized service plans (ISPs)

Supporting active treatment and person-centered programs

Maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in compliance with OSHA and facility standards

Participating in staff meetings, in-service training, and professional development activities

Communicating effectively with families, interdisciplinary team members, and supervisors

Accompanying individuals on medical appointments or community outings as needed

Supervising and guiding Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in the absence of supervisory staff

Reporting performance issues, neglect, or abuse promptly following event reporting procedures

Serving as a preceptor or mentor for new nursing staff when requested
