Job Summary

The Co-Teacher supports instructional delivery, student supervision, and classroom operations to ensure a positive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. This role is designed as both a highly impactful student-facing position and a professional growth opportunity. Co-Teachers actively support instruction through small group work, data collection, and individualized student support, and over time take on increasing responsibility for lesson planning and delivery. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Instructional Support • Assist the Lead Teacher in delivering core instruction through whole-group, small-group, and individualized learning experiences. • Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning, provide targeted support, and extend student understanding. • Support data collection and progress monitoring to inform instructional decisions. • Monitor student engagement and provide feedback to the Lead Teacher on student progress and needs. • Gradually assume responsibility for planning and teaching lessons as familiarity with curriculum and classroom routines increases. • May serve as acting Lead Teacher in the absence of the Lead Teacher, providing continuity of instruction and classroom management. • Support differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners. Classroom Environment and Student Supervision • This role includes significant student supervision responsibilities, including approximately three hours per day supporting students in outdoor and non-instructional settings. • Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, recess, snack, and lunch periods. • Provide morning supervision and support prior to the start of the school day as assigned. • Promote positive student behavior and reinforce classroom expectations. • Support students’ social-emotional development and contribute to a respectful and inclusive classroom community. • Assist in after school dismissal. QUALIFICATIONS: Required • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. • Experience working with children in an educational or youth-centered setting. • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-teaching environment. • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to relate well to individuals of all ages in a school setting. • Flexibility, optimism, energy, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues. Preferred • California Teaching Credential or active enrollment in a credentialing program. • Prior experience as a co-teacher, teaching assistant, or in a classroom support role. • Familiarity with elementary instructional practices and student support strategies.
