Job Brief
We are seeking one or two dedicated Animal Shelter Kennel Attendant(s) with a strong
work ethic and passion for animal welfare to help with the daily operations of our non-
profit animal shelter in Ogdensburg, NY. This primarily includes the duties of primary
animal care including feeding, cleaning and sanitizing all animal contact areas and
general shelter facilities, as well assisting in maintaining the general quality of life for our
animals. The duties shall be performed in compliance with the SLV SPCA Standard
Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the current NYS Department of Agriculture &
Markets Article 26C Regulation of Animal Shelters. All work shall be performed under
the supervision of the Animal Shelter Manager, or others as designated.
Duties/Responsibilities
Provide and/or replace food and water once or twice daily, depending upon hired
working capacity. Document the eating and drinking habits and/or irregularities of
each animal electronically, i.e. on a SLV SPCA computer tablet. This may include
special requirements as needed on an individual animal basis.
Document electronically the waste elimination habits and/or irregularities of each
animal.
Hold primary responsibility for the cleaning, disposal and sanitizing of the
cage/kennel space, associated dishes, toys, beds, etc. and all areas of the
shelter facility.
Manage and proactively work with the Sheler Manager to maintain supplies of
food, treats, linens. cleaning products, and related supplies.
Clean and launder animal linens, fabric beds, and facility linens.
Perform animal housing and general facility cleaning on a daily basis.
Perform animal housing and animal contact area disinfection on a weekly basis.
Perform animal housing and animal contact area decontamination, as needed,
resulting from incidental animal viral and bacterial infections.
Assist the Shelter Manager in the provision of in-house medical treatment.
Assist in the transportation of animals for shelter transfer, veterinarian care
and/or public events via the SLV SPCA van.
Assist SLV SPCA staff, as needed, to observe, monitor and electronically
document activity, behavior, irregularities and/or concerns. Proactively relay any
concerns with the Shelter Manager.
Qualifications
Proven work experience in related animal care and management, preferably in a
shelter environment
Proficiency in computer and software skills
Documented experience and skills in animal care and management
Ability to handle animals safely and humanely
Strong communication skills
NYS Driver's License is preferred but not required

Additional Information
Job Title: Animal Shelter Kennel Attendant
Work Environment: This role operates in an animal shelter’s interior and
exterior environments. Physical activities include lifting, and/or assisting in lifting,
heavy items and interacting with animals of various sizes and temperaments.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Shelter Manager.
Pay Rate: Hourly pay rate of $16.00 to $16.50/hour based upon candidate
experience and qualifications
Location: 6718 State Highway 68, Ogdensburg, NY 13669
Employment Type: Non-exempt. full-time (40 hours/week) service is preferred
but part-time (20 hours/week) service will be considered and hired to the extent it
meets required care SOPs.
A full-time candidate’s work week will generally include five days/week the SLV
SPCA is “Open for Business”, i.e. Tuesday through Saturday.
A part-time candidate’s work week will generally include the two days the SLV
SPCA is not “Open for Business”, i.e. Sunday and Monday, as well as the two
days before, after, or straddling Sundays and Mondays.
Candidates will be selected based on their demonstrated and committed ability
and flexibility to ensure the combination of new and existing staff will meet the
related SLV SPCA SOPs and NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets Article
26C Standards throughout the entire.
