Overview
The Principal of St. John’s Lutheran School serves as the chief spiritual, instructional, and administrative leader of the school, guiding the ministry in a manner that reflects the Gospel, the doctrine of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, and the mission of St. John’s Lutheran Ministries. The Principal ensures that every aspect of SJLS is intentionally grounded in Christ-centered leadership so that students and families may know the saving love of God in Jesus Christ. In alignment with NLSA Standard 3, the Principal works collaboratively with the School Board, Church Council, and pastoral staff to implement policies, provide clear leadership direction, uphold the school’s mission, and steward the resources entrusted to the ministry with transparency, ethical practice, accountability, and fiscal responsibility.

As the primary instructional leader, the Principal oversees the design, development, and annual review of curriculum; leads faculty in establishing and achieving educational goals; and provides formal evaluations, coaching, and constructive feedback that support continuous improvement and professional growth. The Principal also partners with the Vice-Principal to ensure that all teachers and staff are equipped spiritually, emotionally, and academically to carry out the school’s mission.

The Principal actively participates in Church Council, School Board, Voters’ Assembly, and ministry leadership meetings, providing communication that is timely, transparent, and mission-focused. In partnership with the School Board and Council, the Principal assists in the development of the annual school budget and maintains responsible oversight of financial practices to ensure long-term stability and responsible stewardship. The Principal also supports recruitment, marketing, and community engagement initiatives so that SJLS maintains strong connections with families, congregational members, and the wider Mayville community.

Through Christ-rooted leadership, strategic planning, collaborative ministry partnerships, and strong instructional direction, the Principal ensures that St. John’s Lutheran School remains faithful to its mission and effectively prepares students to grow spiritually, academically, and socially. The Principal’s leadership contributes to a culture where students are nurtured, families are supported, staff are empowered, and the Gospel is proclaimed in all aspects of school life—fulfilling both NLSA expectations and the school’s mission in reaching, teaching, and sharing the Gospel.

B. QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • BA/BS in Elementary Education (preferred Master Degree)
  • Graduate-level coursework toward administrative leadership

Preferred:

Desired:

  • Post graduate diploma with area of emphasis in Educational Administration.
  • Past experience in school administration or related field.
  • Complete colloquy (LCMS rostering)
  • Minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience.
  • Special skills, abilities, and behaviors:
  • Must be well organized and well equipped to meet the administrative demands of this ministry.
  • Communicates effectively with others.
  • Acts as a steward of St. John’s Lutheran Church and School.
  • Performs reliably and dependably with a good record of attendance, punctuality, flexibility, and time management.
  • Is responsible for maintaining accreditation of St. John’s Lutheran School.
  • Conducts him/herself in a Christian fashion including promotion and enforcement of behavioral standards and policies consistent with the beliefs and values of St. John’s Lutheran School including but not limited to Matthew 18.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
