What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Teaching Assistant position at St. James Episcopal School?
St. James Episcopal School is seeking a culturally competent and responsive Preschool Assistant to support our early childhood program during the 2026–2027 academic year. The Preschool Assistant will work closely with the Lead Teacher in the 30-month to Kindergarten classrooms to provide a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for our young learners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to support classroom activities and routines
- Positively engage with children, fostering a joyful and inclusive learning environment
- Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of students during classroom, snack, and play times
- Support students in transitions, personal care needs, and conflict resolution
- Assist in the planning and execution of enriching activities
- Help maintain a clean and organized classroom and shared learning spaces
- Secure and tidy up all areas used by students at the end of the day
- Demonstrate professionalism, patience, and strong communication skills with children, colleagues, and families
