JOB OVERVIEW: The Health Services Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the healthcare services provided to inmates. This role ensures that medical, dental, and mental health needs of inmates are met in compliance with applicable laws standards. In addition to these responsibilities the Health Services Coordinator assist and relieves the contracted medical Health Services Administrator in managing the healthcare operations within the facility.

Responsibilities
- In the absence of the , Health Services Administrator, the Health Services Coordinator will assist and relieve the contracted Health Services Administrator in managing day-to-day healthcare operations, addressing administrative tasks, and ensuring smooth workflow.
- Assists the Health Services Administrator with a variety of administrative and supervisory tasks, including budgeting, scheduling, chart reviews, staff meetings, training, inventory, policy and procedure development, personnel issues, and other duties as directed.
- Responds swiftly to calls for medical assistance in housing units.
- Coordinates referrals to outside providers for medical tests or appointments and makes necessary arrangements.
- Prepares the transport slip for the date of appointment/ test; ensures segregation reports are prepared prior to the appointment date; and ensures the inmate understands the required activity or limitations.
- Ensures the health and safety of the inmate populations.
- Provides medical care to inmates, assists with sick call, performs assessments, responds to emergencies, administers nursing care, maintains records, draws blood, collects specimens, etc., as a staff nurse.
- Participates in ongoing training to comply with the license.
- Performs other nursing staff duties commensurate with the level of licensing and other medical office duties as needed when shifts are not covered.
- Works varied hours including different shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- Attends and participates in Medical Division staff meetings.
- Monitors staff nurse compliance with policies and procedures. Audits medical records.
- Develops and implements health policies and procedures in collaboration with the facility’s administration.
- Maintains accurate medical records and ensures confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations.
- Shares after-hours on-call responsibility with the Director of Corrections.
- Oversees pharmacy ordering and billing.
- Oversees TB compliance of ALL inmates.
- Provide effective communication between management/nursing staff/security staff.
- Supervises all nursing staff, including preparing monthly schedules, Performance logs, Performance evaluations, and participating in the employee discipline process.
- Enters data into computer records.
- Files documents.
- Schedules appointments.
- Performs routine cleaning tasks.
- Answers incoming telephone calls.
- Other duties assigned.
- Education
- Bachelor's degree
- Nursing, Health Management, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or closely related field, and a Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri, including commensurable formal education required to obtain certification.
- Certifications
- Missouri nursing license.
- A current Basic Life Support certification.
- Job Experience
- 3-5 years of experience
- Four years of relevant nursing experience.
- Prior experience in a correctional facility or similar experience is helpful.
- Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Must be IV certified and have ability to draw blood.
- Employment is contingent on successfully passing a full criminal background check.
