- Responsible for leading, supporting, and motivating staff in their respective assignments
- Responsible for landscaping such as mowing, trimming, pruning, planting, weeding, watering, mulching, leaf collection, irrigation repairs, and tree pruning for established landscaping.
- Coordinates and verifies the appropriate resources to mow and maintain vacant and flood plain properties owned by the County.
- Manages the application of fertilizers, herbicides and other chemicals including procurement, storage, transportation, and handling.
- Responsible for winterizing and startup of irrigation systems, including schedules, and frequency.
- Coordinates and verifies appropriate level of grounds maintenance being performed on communication tower sites owned by the County.
- Ensures all grounds maintenance work is performed safely and in a timely manner. This includes proper training for chemical use, fuel handling and safely working with job appropriate equipment and tools. Ensures proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Understand and assign all staff work assignments and schedule for adequate coverage for grounds maintenance, vendor escorts, meeting room set-ups and coordinate with appropriate County Departments as needed.
- At times, required to work along staff to ensure work order completion.
- Ensures the areas are policed for trash and other debris. Generates work order to gather and remove litter or power wash areas as needed.
- Patrols and inspects grounds, parking lots, walkways, specific site systems, and flood plain locations for need of repair and maintenance and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
- Create, assign, and manage work orders to allocate staff assignments using the electronic work order software.
- Monitors inventory of various materials and supplies obtains quotes and initiates purchasing efforts to maintain the appropriate levels to meet the needs of the operations. Coordinates supply deliveries with vendors.
- Assists in writing bids for contract lawn and landscape services, snow removal and other services as identified.
- Manages contractors to ensure compliance with their services agreements and address necessary issues. Verifies and approves invoices for services performed.
- Assigns and manages applicable staff responsible for on-call snow duty. Assesses existing and anticipated conditions of various sites and determines need for snow and ice removal efforts.
- Coordinates proactive measures in anticipation of inclement weather as well as the physical removal of snow and ice. Snow duty operations will require communications outside of normal business hours.
- Ensure those assigned to snow duty are trained on the appropriate snow removal equipment and understand the efficient process for snow and ice removal at each location.
- Ensures safe environments for County personnel as well as the public visiting County facilities.
- Estimate and propose capital improvement initiatives during the budget preparation process.
- Oversees the repair and maintenance of tractors, mowers, landscaping equipment, and snow removal equipment. Recommends modifications to enhance the operation of equipment. Arranges equipment and tool repair and procurement.
- Works with County Fleet Manager to ensure appropriate maintenance and repair of County Fleet vehicles assigned to the Facilities Department.
- Hires, instructs, and evaluates employees. Reprimands and commends employees. Recommends employee promotions and terminations.
- Responsible for monitoring and assuring staff follow the County Storm Water Management Program.
- Manage and approve time off requested by staff to ensure proper staffing at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
- General/technical high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Missouri herbicide applicators license.
- Small Engine Repair certificate preferred.
- 5 years of experience in building services, hospitality, or related facility support field.
- 3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel)
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Since employee has access to non-public areas of County buildings, including courtrooms, the correctional and law enforcement facilities, etc., candidate will be required to report all prior convictions and/or pending charges.
- Employment is contingent on successfully passing a full criminal background check.
